      The United Nations, as the only global institution mandated to address economic and
      social challenges where developing countries have an equal say, is the space to call for a systemic transformation of the global financial architecture. This is where the UN Financing for Development (FfD) process comes in – as a space to advance on the systemic changes we urgently need to see.

Application process for CSO Roundtable Speakers for FfD3

EXTENDED DEADLINE – PLEASE APPLY BY MONDAY JUL 6 – 6PM CET

The official programme of the Third FfD Conference includes a parallel track of 6 sequential Roundtables starting on the afternoon of Monday, July 13th, with the last one on the morning of Thursday, July 16th (basically one roundtable always runs in parallel to the plenary discussion with the exception of the opening and closing sessions). Roundtables will address the following broad themes:

- Roundtables 1, 3 and 5 will be on the theme: Global partnership and the three dimensions of sustainable development;

- Roundtables 2, 4 and 6 will be on the theme: Ensuring policy coherence and an enabling environment at all levels for sustainable development.

Each roundtable will include two Co-Chairs, a moderator and up to four panellists. Following the initial remarks by Co-Chairs, moderator and panellists, the Roundtables are expected to be “interactive” and a list of speakers is not established. However, in accordance to UN protocol, Ministerial speakers will get to speak first and will probably read out statements at the round-table. For more information, you can consult the official conference programme at the following link:

http://www.un.org/esa/ffd/ffd3/conference/programme.html#rts

Civil society has been allocated up to 6 speaker slots and 6 observer slots for each Roundtable. Speakers are expected to be representatives of the (accredited) organization at the highest possible level. They will be allowed interventions of no longer than 3 minutes. CSO speakers are expected to convey the key messages by civil society and would therefore be expected to participate in the CSO FfD Forum where those key messages will be agreed upon. Furthermore, they will be expected to coordinate their talking points with the other selected speakers for each roundtable and be ready to re-organize and collate them, should the likelihood of fewer CSO interventions become evident (i.e. running out of time).

We invite those interested in nominating/applying for one of the reserved CSO speaker slots to during these 6 round-tables to fill the following application form no longer that Saturday, 4 July 2015, 6PM CET: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/10ppDH1EGhcty61kAoPhgDEIUVMwM5HfEE_cwHWwcukM/viewform?usp=send_form

A separate form will soon be made available for the CSO observer slots.

Based on the applications received, a selection committee consisting of members of the Addis Ababa CSO Coordinating Group (ACG) will score applicants for speaking slots on the basis of the following criteria:

i. Track record and proven engagement (by the individual and/or his/her organization) in policy analysis, dialogue and advocacy during the FfD process and the preparatory process for Addis Ababa Conference in particular;

ii. Proven speaking abilities in one of the UN official languages;

iii. Gender, geographical and constituency balance;

iv. A maximum of one speaker for single organisation (broadly understood) will be selected.

The final shortlist of selected candidates for the speaking and observer slots will be circulated on the Global Social Economy Group (GSEG) list as soon as possible thereafter and not later than Monday, July 6th, in order for the GSEG to have a chance to raise questions about the shortlist, if deemed necessary. The final list will be submitted to the UN FfD Office on Tuesday, July 7th.

Please circulate this message as broadly as possible so that all possible interested parties, including those that are not enrolled on the GSEG list can receive this information. Should you require any further clarifications, please do not hesitate to contact the ACG (addiscoordinatinggroup@gmail.com).
