Date & Time: November 23, 15:30 – 17:00 Accra-time
Theme: “Making the campaign for a UN tax convention a component of the global fight for democratic and inclusive economic and financial governance”
Organisers: GATJ, TJNA & Civil Society FfD Mechanism
Overview:
While countries of the Global South and international civil society are continuing their struggle for an “inclusive and effective international tax cooperation and a UN tax convention” the OECD is endeavouring to bring countries to sign its Multilateral Convention for its patchy “reform”. This is part of the efforts of powerful OECD countries to keep international economic governance in their own hands. The struggle for a UN tax convention is thus part of the global struggle to democratise international financial and economic architecture. FfD will be the pivotal arena for this fight and the requisite mobilisation. This panel discussion will establish the link between the different struggles in this area and pave the way for their convergence.
